Medical Director, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Nashua
Sanders Burstein, MD
Sanders Burstein, MD has been Medical Director of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Nashua since 2003. He describes his role as primarily driving the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Mission "to Advance Health", which he does through focused efforts on patient safety, quality improvement, service excellence initiatives, and performance management of a 70 provider Dartmouth-Hitchcock multi-specialty group in the Greater Nashua Area. He also serves as the Patient Safety and Quality Officer for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Community Group Practices.
He joined Dartmouth-Hitchcock in 1984, pioneering a new site in Milford, NH and subsequently served as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine for over a decade before becoming Medical Director in 2003. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics. He recently served on the Board of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce and the Board of the Endowment for Health, where he now serves on their Advisory Council. He lives with his wife Rowena in Amherst, where they raised 4 children.
One of Dr. Burstein's most notable accomplishments was directing the planning and development of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Nashua's new medical home, a 150,000 square foot, environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art ambulatory care center that opened for patients in January 2012. His thoughtful leadership of the expansive project was evident throughout the process as he regularly solicited feedback from patients and staff on everything from design to care delivery. With patient care and provider and staff collaboration at the heart of every decision, the completed project is well positioned to serve the greater Nashua community for years to come.
