Michael J. Goran, MD

Dr. Goran provides assistance to integrated delivery systems, academic medical centers, physician groups, and health plans. Currently Dr. Goran is working with a regional health plan on a growth strategy using new consumer-driven products. He is also assisting a leading quality improvement organization with strategic planning, and focusing on the use of incentives to improve outcomes and redefine relationships between physicians and hospitals.  Dr. Goran served as Vice President in the healthcare consulting practice of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and prior to that, Partner in the healthcare consulting practice of Ernst & Young, LLP, where he had national responsibility for managed care consulting. Key clients included academic medical centers, integrated healthcare systems, medical groups, and health maintenance organizations. 

During his career, Dr. Goran has been President of a company with national responsibility for providing utilization management and networks to self-insured employers, Vice President of APM Management Consultants, Vice President and Director of National Healthcare Consulting for Towers Perrin, and Partner in the National Healthcare Consulting practice of Ernst & Whinney. He also served as Executive Director and Medical Director of the Rockridge Healthcare Plan, a federally qualified health maintenance organization located in Northern California.  Dr. Goran served in the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, where he had responsibility for implementing the national peer review program for physicians and for standards of participation for hospitals, nursing homes, and laboratories participating in Medicare.

Dr. Goran holds an A.B. degree from the University of Chicago, and an M.D. degree from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine. He interned at the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago, and completed a residency in psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University. He is board certified in psychiatry, and licensed as a physician and surgeon in California, New York, and the District of Columbia.
