HIV regimen sets a new standard
Dr. Paul Palumbo

Dartmouth faculty member Paul Palumbo coordinated the efforts of 19 researchers from 18 institutions to evaluate a new HIV regimen in six African nations.

Zambia was one of six African nations where a trial for a new pediatric HIV regimen was conducted by Dr. Paul Palumbo, a D-H pediatrician. The regimen was shown to be so superior to the standard approach at treating pediatric HIV, and at preventing the transmission of HIV from mother to child, that as soon as the results were available the World Health Organization revised its treatment guidelines. The study and an accompanying editorial were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
