Support for those with severe mental illness
- Real-life stories about IPS supported employment (11 videos, from 4:17 to 17:24)
Kansas is one of 13 states nationwide that now use individual placement and support (IPS) supported employment—a model pioneered and tested at Dartmouth—to help people with severe mental illnesses. IPS, cofounded by DMS faculty members Deborah Becker and Dr. Robert Drake, is only one of the precedent-setting initiatives of the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center (PRC). Another example is a four-year study in Washington, D.C., comparing various interventions for the treatment of co-occurring mental-health and substance-abuse disorders. Drake and Dr. Gregory McHugo head the PRC.
