St. Louis Cardinals hurler Chris Carpenter, a New Hampshire native, is "glad to help the kids" at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD). Winner of a Cy Young Award and a World Series ring, he's supported CHaD with generous donations and regular visits to young patients throughout the D-H system. It all started in the late 1990s, when John Xiggoros launched a fund called Kristen's Gift in memory of his daughter, who died of a rare cancer. He approached Carpenter for help; the major-leaguer's response was "Just tell me where to be and what to do."
