Patient Creative Writing Projects

Photo: Marv Klassen-Landis and participantThe Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Lebanon offers patients a creative writing program, with partial support from DHMC's Art Program.

The program, led by Marv Klassen-Landis, a literary arts teacher with over 20 years of experience, offers patients and their families the opportunity to write poetry, prose or letters, or to listen as Marv reads to them. People are often surprised by the power of their own words when transcribed by Marv.

If you are interested in participating during your visit, please contact the Support Services Office of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at (603) 650-7751. Although our staff is only available for limited hours, we will do our best to accommodate your request. Patients and caregivers may also be interested in the writing group for those touched by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, offered in various locations in the Upper Valley.

We offer some of our favorite patient-written pieces in the following categories.

We also publish an annual anthology of poems, stories and reflections written by patients, supporters and hospital staff.
