Hitchcock Wind Orchid
Hitchcock Wind Orchid, a 27-foot-tall stainless steel kinetic sculpture by George Sherwood, was installed on the west lawn of DHMC in July 2011 and will remain on view for two years.
Sherwood, of Ipswich, Mass., "explores systems that incorporate space, time and the relationships between dynamic objects." Many of his sculptures "echo the vitality and gestures extracted from nature." Hitchcock Wind Orchid references gently swaying branches or leaves and, because of its multiple moving parts, constantly varies in its form.
The work is on loan courtesy of the artist and Essex Fine Art, New London, N.H. Installation at DHMC is sponsored by a local patron, David Roby, of Lyme, N.H.
