The intestines are made up of the small intestine, which is connected to the stomach, and the large intestine, which is the last part of your digestive system.

The small intestines absorb nutrients from the food you eat, and the large intestine forms solid waste, or feces, from that food. The colon and rectum make up the large intestine.

The intestines are sometimes called the bowels.
