Hospital Medicine

At Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, hospitalists also serve as teachers for medical students and residents.

Hospitalists work in teams. Often you will meet two or more of our physicians during your hospitalization. These physicians are well informed of your medical history and current status and will meet with you and your family to discuss the issues of your hospitalization.

Specifically, hospitalists provide daily updates. They discuss with you any lab and study results, the proposed duration of the hospital stay, changes in medications and specific needs on discharge from DHMC, and needs for additional studies and follow up. The team will also convey this information to your primary care physician.

We have Hospital Medicine programs at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and through a partnership with Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont.

We work closely with the Department of Medicine and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. For more information on hospital medicine, visit the Society for Hospital Medicine website.
