The program lasts about one hour. One of our providers presents an overview, and will answer any questions you may have. Nurses from the Department of Surgery and the Gastroenterology Department will explain in detail what you will have to do before the procedure. The nurses will also help you select a provider, date, and a time for the procedure. We have been told that our patients are the best prepared for a colonoscopy because they understand what they are buying, and have a detailed written document to follow. About colonoscopies The recommended age for starting colon screening is 50 unless you have a first degree relative (parent/sibling/child) who has had colon cancer. The screening colonoscopy then needs to start 10 years earlier for you than the age of diagnosis of the relative.
