Kohl's Department Stores Donates $27,752 to CHaD
December 20, 2011
Dede Carpenter, manager of Kohl's Department Store in West Lebanon, delivered a check to CHaD today in the amount of $27,752 on behalf of the Kohl's Cares®, a cause merchandising program designed to make a positive difference in the lives of children. Sales of books and stuffed animals in the West Lebanon store benefit Kohl's Cares®, which in turn, has awarded a grant to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) for The Period of Purple Crying® program. Kohl's has gifted approximately $155,860 to Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) since 2005.
The Period of Purple Crying® is a new way to help parents understand this developmentally normal period of increased infant crying, which can span from 2 weeks to 4 months of age. The Period of Purple Crying® is discussed with all parents who deliver their babies at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Parents are also given a book and DVD as resources, free of charge. CHaD is working with other organizations statewide to increase the reach of this program in the community.
"We are proud that our store was able to provide this gift to a CHaD, and we are happy to be here and see first-hand the difference this gift can make," said Carpenter. Dr. Keith Loud, who accepted the check on behalf of CHaD, discussed The Period of Purple Crying® program with visiting associates, and added, "this is an impressive gift from your store, and important to this program which prevents early childhood injury."
