Karen Gilbert, MS, APRN

Karen Gilbert, center, cares for one of her epilepsy patients.

Karen Gilbert, MS, APRN, Nurse Practitioner for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Epilepsy Program, has led a multidisciplinary research project to help epilepsy patients endure the surgery they often go through to control their seizures. Using hypnotherapy and relaxation techniques for one treatment group and no interventions for a control group, the research team found that hypnotherapy significantly reduced anxiety and the need for pain medication.
