"Community Service is Part of What We All Do Here"
Andrew Martin and Karen Pushee

Andrew Martin, left, and Karen Pushee spearheaded the ISCU "Listen Dinners."

Volunteerism was the initial goal for the Intermediate Special Care Unit (ISCU) nursing staff when they started to serve healthy food to families and individuals in need at a local charity last year. But these weekly meals at Listen Community Services became more about engaging with friends and family, building a healthy team spirit among colleagues, and providing a vital community service to those less fortunate.

Listen is a multi-service agency serving low-income citizens of the Upper Valley region with programs such as fuel and rent assistance, summer camp scholarships and community dinners. The ISCU staff volunteered their time and energy for Listen's Community Dinner program, which serves nutritious meals five nights a week in four locations to low-income families with children and seniors. Andrew Martin, RN, staff nurse for the ISCU, spearheaded the volunteer team of cooks and servers with support from Karen Pushee, MA, RN, Nurse Manager.
