The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, affiliated with Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine, comprises 35 nationally and internationally recognized faculty and nearly 400 technologists and support staff.

Our team provides comprehensive, sub-specialty surgical pathology and laboratory medicine expertise to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and regionally throughout the Dartmouth Health system.

Accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the newly renovated, semi-automated, LEAN-processed clinical laboratories provide a menu of complex diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic tests in the disciplines of:

  • Clinical chemistry
  • Cytogenetics
  • Cytology
  • Hematology
  • Hematopathology
  • Microbiology
    • Virology
  • Molecular pathology
  • Surgical pathology
  • Transfusion medicine (including a blood donor program)

The Department processes over 3 million clinical tests a year with a third of that volume originating from Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics and practices in the southern region of New Hampshire (Manchester and Nashua).
