Student Education

Student experiences are available for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech/language pathology students as part of their formal education from their accredited educational institution.

The department welcomes 15 to 20 students per year from an equivalent number of educational programs. All students accepted into the program must go through their coordinators of clinical education for an assignment. Students are accepted year round with the largest number being in the spring and fall. The length of experiences are determined by the educational institution but vary from one to twenty weeks.

During the student experience at DHMC the student will be expected to maintain the same scheduled hours as their clinical instructor.

Following the assignment to DHMC the student will receive a complete packet outlining general information, student program philosophy and goals, name of their clinical instructor, specific health requirements, expectations during the experience, housing options, etc. The first day at DHMC includes both hospital and department orientation.
