5C Adult Rheumatology Clinic
The Rheumatology Clinic operates 5 days a week (Monday through Friday). We have 9 experienced and skillful Rheumatologists, a capable Nurse Practitioner, and proficient nursing and secretarial staff.
In 2008, a monthly interdisciplinary clinic was established as the result of collaboration between Dr. Robert Wortmann and Dr. Jeffrey Cohen of Neurology. The clinic is designed specifically for patients with unusual muscle problems. The appointment also includes a muscle biopsy that takes place in Same Day Surgery.
In 2006, Dr. Lin Brown and Dr. Clay Block (Nephrology) established a monthly Vasculitis Clinic which takes place in Nephrology (2M).
Dr. Lin Brown and Dr. Dorothea C. Torti (Dermatology) established a monthly Dermatology-Rheumatology Clinic consisting of follow up and new patients that have skin problems as a result of their complications of their rheumatologic condition. Patients are seen at our Heater Road facility in an afternoon clinic where they see both Dr. Brown and Dr. Torti on the same day.
The Pulmonary-Rheumatology Clinic started in spring of 2013, by a collaboration between Dr. Daniel Albert (Rheumatology) and Dr. Alex Gifford (Pulmonary) as a clinic for patients with complications of their rheumatic disease that affects their lungs. Patients will have a consult with each provider from both specialties and then be sent back to their primary doctors unless there is a follow-up needed.
As a substitute for outreach clinics some of our providers have set up clinic time where they can host a videoconference with Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH. With the help of Nursing and Scheduling at Weeks, and a Provider, Nurse Manager, and Clinical Secretary at DHMC we schedule once-a-month clinics for these providers consisting of both New Patient Workups and Follow-ups.
Telemedicine appears to be more cost effective and efficient for both the patient and the provider as it limits valuable specialist time that would otherwise be spent in travel learning new computer systems and familiarizing themselves with procedures and protocols of different hospitals. It also is a great alternative for those patients who do not have reliable transportation to and from DHMC. However, we do give patients the option to be seen physically here as well.
Clinical Research Unit
We have a robust clinical research unit with two assistants and a research nurse that manage a variety of different clinical trials in both Rheumatoid Arthritis and Inflammatory Muscle Disease. Please contact (603) 650-8622 for more information on trials available.
Camp Dartmouth-Hitchcock is a one week residential camp located at the Hulbert Outdoor Center on beautiful Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vermont. The intention is to provide children and adolescents with rheumatologic conditions a camp experience that facilitates lasting personal growth and independence. 2013 marks Camp Dartmouth-Hitchcock's 30th year anniversary.
