Located in the northern tip of New Hampshire is a rural 16 bed not-for-profit critical access hospital (CAH) called the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital Dartmouth-Hitchcock (UCVH D-H). The name refers to the headwaters of the Connecticut River that is part of the 850 square-mile service area of the hospital, which includes 20 towns and 8,500 people in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. This hospital, though small, is confident in its mission to improve the well-being of the rural communities served by promoting health and assuring access to quality care. In providing the following continuum of services, UCVH sees itself as a primary health care resource center for the northern tri-state area.
The medical community believes it can be most efficient by working in a collaborative versus competitive environment. UCVH and its primary care physicians achieve this through their membership in the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance (DHA), whose goals are to assure residents of the UCVH service area continued access to community-based health care services within an integrated Connecticut Valley Health Care network. UCVH recently celebrated an important milestone -- for thirty six years UCVH has provided health care services to its citizenry. From the groundbreaking moment in 1970 of a community hospital overlooking Colebrook with Vermont's Mount Monadnock as a backdrop, to the unfolding of its affiliation with DHA the medical community has consistently responded to changing times. Regardless of the changes, our goal remains clear -- to make the scenic North Country a healthy place to live, by preventing illness in the well and compassionately caring for the sick.
