Endoscopic Bariatric Therapy (EBT)
At the Weight & Wellness Center, we offer innovative endoscopic technology to address obesity and associated medical conditions. We have board certified gastroenterologists who are experts in interventional endoscopy and are pioneering advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options using new and exciting techniques.
Endoscopic Bariatric Therapy (EBT) offers feasible, safe, and effective treatment options for obesity, with less risk and cost compared to bariatric surgery. EBT is performed entirely through the mouth using flexible tubes.
EBT can be used in the treatment of obesity in the following ways:
- Primary EBT
Primary EBT is used to induce weight loss and to improve overall health by addressing the serious medical conditions associated with obesity.
- Bridge Therapy
The intent of Bridge Therapy is to promote weight loss in order to reduce the potential risk of a subsequent treatment such as bariatric surgery. If you have severe obesity with multiple medical problems, you are at a higher risk from Bariatric Surgery than less obese, healthier patients.
- Metabolic Therapy
If you are obese and also have serious medical conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, and hypertension, there may be an improvement in your metabolic disease through treatment with EBT. For more information, refer to the Metabolic Syndrome topic on our Dartmouth-Hitchcock Healthwise® Health Encyclopedia website.
- Revision Therapy
Revision therapy provides a non-surgical approach to address issues that may arise if you have had previous bariatric surgeries.
General endoscopic services
If you are obese, you are at a higher risk for many disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that may require endoscopic diagnosis or treatment. At the Weight & Wellness Center, we can connect you to specialists in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Endoscopy Centers to help you with these problems.
