Jonathan Huntington, MD, PhD, MPH, is a 2007 graduate of Dartmouth Medical School's [now The Geisel School of Medicine] combined MD/PhD program. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in 2010 and earned a Masters of Public Health in 2012 from The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice as a part of DHMC's Preventive Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Huntington is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine and works clinically as a hospitalist.
In April of 2020, Dr. Huntington was named the Acting Chief Medical Officer for DHMC. He is responsible for clinical and physician-related responsibilities specific to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) academic medical center. He will lead efforts in overseeing and coordinating, with the Chief Nursing Officer and the Senior Vice President for Clinical Operations, cross-disciplinary hospital functions, applying system policies related to physicians at the medical center; managing, with the Chief Quality Officer, accreditation issues; and maintaining and updating professional staff bylaws/rules and regulations. As a co-leader of D-H's Throughput Access for Patients Project (TAPP), he will be instrumental in the continued efforts to maximize efficiency and throughput in the medical center and, most importantly, ensuring that exceptional service is provided to our patients.
In September of 2019, Dr. Huntington was appointed DHMC's Associate Chief Medical Officer. In that role, he was lead physician for the D-H Transfer Center, responsible to provide leadership and oversight for the DHMC inpatient clinical enterprise. He led the team of inpatient unit medical directors in support of initiatives to improve patient care and implement innovative approaches to managing patient flow and capacity with a specific emphasis on achieving the D-H strategic goal for reduction of length of stay.
In addition to his clinical and administrative duties, Dr. Huntington has an avid interest in inter-professional education with a specific focus on quality improvement and patient safety.
Dr. Huntington has lived in the Upper Valley since 1997 and when not at work, loves hiking, skiing and paddling with his wife and two children.
