Vincent S. Conti, MHA, Chair

A native of New York City, Vince enjoyed a 36-year career in acute care hospitals and health care administration prior to his retirement from full-time work in 2009.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from City University of New York – Brooklyn College and service in the US Army, he received a Master in Hospital Administration from Cornell University in 1973. As part of the Mayor John Lindsey administration, he helped to develop an innovative health services program for the New York City prison system in 1973-1975. He then joined Day Kimball Hospital in Connecticut as its Assistant Administrator.  Following three years of service in this community sole provider hospital, he was asked to join the administrative staff of Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) in New Haven, CT in 1978. He spent close to 20 years at YNHH in increasingly broader and more responsible positions, ultimately responsible for virtually all aspects of the operation of this 900-bed primary teaching affiliate hospital of the Yale University Medical School.

In 1997, Vince was recruited to the position of President and CEO of Maine Medical Center (MMC), a 600-bed tertiary services hospital in Portland, ME. During his 12-year tenure as CEO, he managed a significant expansion of Maine Medical Center’s tertiary services, its undergraduate and graduate medical education and other medical training programs, as well as its medical research commitments. He created the MMC Center for Performance Improvement, which supported MMC being named a “Top 100 Hospital,” fourth of “50 Exceptional US Hospitals” based on national safety practices, a Nursing “Magnet” Hospital, and its Pediatric Hospital a “Top 25 Children’s Hospital.”  In 2008, Vince negotiated a new medical school affiliation with the Tufts School of Medicine to create an innovative undergraduate medical school program based in both Portland, ME and in Boston, MA.

Vince has been the recipient of numerous health care and other community service awards and recognitions, and has served on numerous state and local health care, community, service and business Boards, including: Chair, Voluntary Hospitals of America – New England; Chair, American Hospital Association Region 1 Policy Board; Health Insights. In 2007, he was appointed to serve on the Governor’s Task Force to Study the Future of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and in 2006 was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of the American Hospital Association. In addition to serving on the Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health Boards, he currently serves on the Advisory Board of Radius Venture Capital, as well as on several health care-related startup and other proprietary venture boards.

Vince is married to Meredith Conti, who also holds a Master in Hospital Administration from Cornell University, where they met and were married. They reside in Cape Elizabeth, ME and Sarasota, FL. They are the parents of two sons, Vincent, of Oahu, HI, and Christian, of Somerville, MA.
