Skin Cancer Care (Mohs Surgery)
Our skin cancer specialists treat common and rare skin cancers. Our focus is on the complete removal of your skin cancer while ensuring you have a comfortable day. In most cases, removal and repair can happen on the same day. We also have the ability to work with other members within Dartmouth-Hitchcock to provide care if needed.
What is Mohs Surgery?
Mohs Micrographic Surgery is a specialized form of surgery for the treatment of cancers of the skin. It combines precise tumor removal and real-time examination under a microscope.
We remove your tumor completely while removing the least amount of normal healthy tissue. The chance that skin cancer will come back in the same area is less than 1% using this procedure.
What types of skin cancers can we treat with Mohs Micrographic Surgery?
Mohs Micrographic Surgery is most often used for skin cancers of the:
- Ears
- Face
- Feet
- Hands
- Scalp
- Shins
The types of skin cancers treated include:
- Basal cell carcinoma
- Melanoma in situ and thin melanomas
- Squamous cell carcinoma
We are the only hospital in New Hampshire to offer Mohs Micrographic Surgery for the treatment of melanoma in situ and thin melanomas. We can also use it for skin cancers with high-risk characteristics on the trunk and extremities.
