Dartmouth Patient Deterioration Prediction Laboratory

The Dartmouth Patient Deterioration Prediction Laboratory (DP2L) was created to carry on and enhance the work in patient safety and quality that Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is well known for.

Dr. Andreas Taenzer serves as Clinical Director role for this innovative lab and Dr. Susan McGrath (Director of Performance Improvement) serves as Technical Director.

With this designation, we are seeking to establish a program/core capability in prediction of patient deterioration and population control systems within selected patient populations (initially in tertiary and quaternary care settings and then translating those capabilities to secondary and primary care settings). This formalizes an area of expertise long nurtured within the Department of Anesthesiology (e.g., safety of sedation practices, establishment of an in-house emergency response system/team, development of a hospital-wide comprehensive patient surveillance system, etc.).
