Lupus (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder. It may affect the skin, joints, kidneys, and other organs.
In the Section of Rheumatology, we treat lupus and related disorders, including:
- Lupus Nephritis: A kidney disorder that is a complication of systemic lupus erythematosus and causes progressive loss of kidney function.
- Nephrotic Syndrome: A group of symptoms including protein in the urine, low blood protein levels, high cholesterol levels, and swelling (edema). For more information, refer to the Nephrotic Syndrome topic on our Dartmouth-Hitchcock Healthwise® Health Encyclopedia website.
