Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care

The opening of the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care represents the realization of a vision thirty years in the making. For too long, our region has been without a facility to care for those with life-limiting illness who may not be able to receive the level of care they need while at home, in other residential settings or in the Emergency Room.

Fulfilling a vision for care in the Upper Valley

In partnership with hospice and nursing organizations throughout the region, the Jack Byrne Center closes a gap in our health system, making personalized care, community programming and clinical research opportunities available within a state-of-the-art, homelike environment.

A place you can feel at home

We've gone to great lengths to make our rooms feel warm and intimate, but also spacious enough to accommodate visiting family and friends. We encourage visitors to make use of the Family Kitchen and Dining Room, as well as the comfortable gathering spaces and quiet or private areas throughout the Center.

A place to build community

The White Mountains Room provides a casual space for visitors to gather, and an adjacent activity room hosts a range of community programming, such as yoga classes, art and writing workshops, performances and support groups for patients and families. The chapel is open to all for peaceful reflection, and outdoor gardens offer a space to gather in warmer months.

The Jack Byrne Center also offers:

  • 12 spacious inpatient rooms where patients who require highly specialized care will receive the most advanced pain and symptom management in a home-like setting.
  • Multi-disciplinary workspaces and respite areas for staff.
  • Spaces to create and to enjoy art, music, and food.

A place for learning and research

While the Center will incorporate state-of-the-art practices in palliative and hospice care, Center staff will advance their practice through research and education. Research at the Jack Byrne Center is an integral part of ongoing research initiatives at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. The Center also offers training programs for hospice and palliative care professionals.

We promise to work together to give patients with serious illness the best care in the right place at the right time, to collaborate with community partners to transform the care of patients and families in our region and set the standard for the nation.

By giving comprehensive palliative and hospice care, our goal is to help every patient live his or her life well, with meaning and purpose, doing what is most important as life draws to a close.

Support the Jack Byrne Center

Generosity is at the heart of the Jack Byrne Center. Construction of the facility was made possible by the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation and by the many contributors who joined in supporting the vision for the Center. We continue to rely on the generosity of friends and community members who value the care and services we provide.

Your gift to the Jack Byrne Center will help to ensure that the special programs and support services provided by our staff and volunteers are here for patients and families during difficult times.
