Summary

People with CF often get lung infections. The germs that cause these infections can live in the mucous, or sputum, in the lungs. A common germ that causes these infections is a bacterium called Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The purpose of this study is to find out if these germs have factors that: (1) make it easy for them to live in sputum (2) make it hard for antibiotics to control the germs (3) makes them more damaging to the lungs. We will study these factors and try to find new ways to treat lung infections. Our goal is to publish a research paper about the factors produced by these germs. We will share the information we discover in this research study with other scientists who are looking for ways to treat the germs that cause lung infections in people with CF.
