Vera P. Luther, MD, MS, has been named as the new section chief of infectious disease and international health in the department of medicine at Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC).
Luther joins DHMC from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. In addition to her role as an educator, she is also the program director of the infectious diseases fellowship and director of the Center for Antimicrobial Utilization, Stewardship, and Epidemiology at Wake Forest, and epidemiologist and chair of Advocate Health’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Research, Education and Innovations Workgroup.
“Dr. Luther is a recognized leader in her field and frequently authors peer-reviewed literature,” said Nathan E. Goldstein, MD, chair of the department of medicine at DHMC. “Her work has been widely recognized with numerous distinctions and awards. She has also been deemed an Infectious Diseases Society of America ‘Ally’ for her work with infectious diseases and HIV advocacy.”
Luther earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and completed her residency and infectious disease fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She is double board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, she recently earned a master’s degree in health informatics from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Luther will start her new role on May 26.
