Education
The Clinical Informatics program supports the educational mission of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) and the Geisel School of Medicine (GSM) at Dartmouth by teaching medical students and training clinicians, residents, nurses, technicians, and staff in the broad area of informatics and more specifically in the use of eDH. In addition, the program collaborates with the Collaboratory for Healthcare and Biomedical Informatics at the GSM in planning and implementing a Biomedical Informatics Grand Rounds, bringing distinguished guests to the Hanover/Lebanon area to present research and current bioinformatics topics.
Research
Fostering and supporting a research agenda is part of the Clinical Informatics faculty vision. Together with the Collaboratory for Healthcare and Biomedical Informatics at the GSM, members of the Clinical Informatics group meet regularly to discuss ongoing or potential research initiatives and to provide support to the CTSA grant. DHMC has an extensive data warehouse which it manages and utilizes for research.
Outreach
Engaging in informatics outside of DHMC is an ongoing practice. Various Clinical Informatics members and staff participate in bi-annual meetings and sundry courses at Epic in Verona, WI to stay current on EHR issues and management and share their experiences and research with others. Additionally, individual clinicians and staff are members of national organizations, such as the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS). Participation at annual meetings and subscribing to informatics journals serve to expand understanding and inform and enhance programs back at DHMC.
Closer to home, Clinical Informatics engages the Upper Connecticut River Valley by accepting invitations to speak or give presentations to groups.
