Our Cardiac Surgery Program uses robotic technology (da Vinci® robotic system) for heart surgeries. This technology offers a minimally invasive surgical option. Robotic surgery allows surgeons to operate through smaller incisions and avoid traditional surgery techniques that could be more invasive.
Our cardiac surgery team offers a variety of robotic-assisted heart procedures:
- Minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass
- Robotic aortic valve replacement
- Robotic mitral valve repair
- Total endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting
How does robotic-assisted heart surgery work?
The robot does not work on its own. It assists surgeons by providing greater visibility, precision, and control during surgery. The surgeon operates the robot through a console, using it to hold surgical instruments and a camera that magnifies their view.
How can you benefit from robotic-assisted heart surgery?
You may benefit from:
- Shorter hospital stays, typically reduced from 5-6 days to around 3 days
- Faster recovery, with many returning to full activity in about half the time compared to traditional surgery
- Reduced blood loss and lower risk of infection, contributing to a safer overall experience
