Healthcare Education Learning Project (HELP) Services

The Center for Learning and Professional Development (CLPD) division’s Learning Design and Systems (LDaS) and Simulation-Based Education and Research (SBER) teams, as well as the Human Resources division’s (HR) Organizational & Employee Development (OED) team support educational initiatives that benefit the Dartmouth Health System. These services can be requested for any clinical or non-clinical learning need by completing the Healthcare Education Learning Project (HELP) Request form linked below. For additional information, please see the frequently asked questions listed further down this page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the purpose of the CLPD intake process?

  • To connect Dartmouth Health educators/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with professional designers and resources to meet their education needs.
  • To provide designers with adequate baseline information about potential projects to determine how best to proceed.
  • To collect data on the volume and type of education requests submitted to CLPD.

What should I expect when working with content designers? (Roles of designers vs. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs))

  • Clear and timely communication.
  • Collaboration with a team of experienced educational content designers.
  • Many questions for SMEs to answer.
  • Professional perspective and discussion regarding the technologies and modalities that will best meet your needs.

What is expected of the submitters/SMEs?

  • Active engagement in the design process.
  • Regular communication with the design team. To best assess how to build your educational activity, designers will need to engage directly with SMEs throughout the design process. Delays in answering questions will delay the building of the activity.
  • Attendance at design meetings. Other staff may also attend, but the SME should always be present.

What should I include when I describe a problem I am trying to address?

  • Past/current efforts to address the problem.
  • Impacts of the problem.
  • Goal that is trying to be achieved.
  • Learner population/target audience.
  • Logistical considerations.

Are there certain considerations to be aware of for different target audiences?

It’s important to start thinking about who your learners are. This will be an important discussion during your first meeting with designers, but isn’t essential for the intake form. For example, can your learners access the technology you want to use? Are your learners members of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (Lebanon)? Different member organizations may have access to different technology or may have internal resources that can be utilized.

What are some examples of relevant supporting documentation to include when submitting a request?

Any materials that would help our designers better understand the problem that you are seeking to address. Examples might include:
  • Learning goals/objectives
  • Reference materials
  • Standards (i.e. clinical guidelines, Dartmouth Health policy, accreditation requirements)
  • Existing relevant teaching materials

Why should I design an interprofessional learning activity?

Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) events allow facilitators and learners from different professions to learn from, with, and about each other. It is widely accepted that Interprofessional Education (IPE) is an effective model that is increasingly used to enhance patient care. In today’s health care environment, IPCE is being widely recognized as an essential element of high reliability organizations and contributes to the reduction of preventable medical errors.

Can I offer Joint Accreditation contact hours for this activity?

CLPD-designed educational activities are eligible for Joint Accreditation contact hours.

For more information about accreditation, please visit the CLPD home page.

What should I expect after submission?

A designer will contact you within 7 to 10 days after submission to discuss next steps.
