A hernia happens when an organ in your body pushes through the layers of muscle that surround it. A doctor may recommend surgery to repair a hernia that has become painful.
The Hernia Surgery Center repairs a variety of hernias, including two common abdominal hernias: the inguinal hernia and the ventral hernia. We also repair femoral, hiatal, and other hernias.
Our surgeons use both open and minimally-invasive techniques to repair hernias. Minimally-invasive hernia repair:
- May cause less pain than open hernia repair
- Leaves only small scars
- May allow a patient to return to normal activities in a shorter amount of time
The Hernia Surgery Center works closely with the General Surgery and Gastroenterology and Hepatology departments. For more information on hernia care, visit the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
