What do you need to participate?

To participate in the HOBSCOTCH program, you'll need:

  • Transportation to an in-person appointment or access to a webcam and reliable internet to attend the first session.
  • Reliable telephone access and reception for the weekly phone calls with your Cognitive Coach. You'll need access phone access for approximately 45 to 50 minutes per week.

We will provide you with all the materials that you need to do HOBSCOTCH, but all the growth, improvement, and insight will come from you!

How much time is involved?

You will need approximately 45 to 60 minutes per week to speak with your Cognitive Coach over the phone. 1 in-person or virtual telehealth appointment is required as well.

Outside of these meetings, the more time that you can commit to HOBSCOTCH, the more that you will get out of the program. We recommend taking 10 minutes or more each day to reflect on memory issues. Practice problem solving therapy, and use the mindfulness relaxation techniques and other strategies from your toolbox. Over time, these skills will become part of your daily life.

Does it work?

Yes! HOBSCOTCH has improved the quality of life in 2 randomized-controlled trials with over 100 participants.

My spouse, friend or partner has epilepsy. Is this program right for them?

HOBSCOTCH is a self-management program. It relies on the participant being self-motivated to achieve their goals. We have found that the people who get the most out of HOBSCOTCH are those who sign themselves up. Being enthusiastic to do the work during the 8 weeks of the program and beyond generates the best results. Your loved one will benefit from your encouragement and support as they make their way through the program.
