"Hitchcock Wind Orchid," a 27-foot tall stainless steel kinetic sculpture by George Sherwood, was installed on the west lawn of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in July 2011.
Sherwood, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, "explores systems that incorporate space, time and the relationships between dynamic objects." Many of his sculptures "echo the vitality and gestures extracted from nature."
"Hitchcock Wind Orchid" references gently swaying branches or leaves and, because of its multiple moving parts, constantly varies in its form.
The Wind Orchid is a gift of generous anonymous donors to our patients, visitors, and staff.
