An enduring material is an on-demand activity that does not have a specific time or location designated for participation; rather, the learner determines when to participate in the activity. The content can be accessed at any point during the lifespan of the activity, and there is no specific time designated for participation. Examples include online interactive educational modules, recorded presentations, printed materials, and podcasts.
The credit available for an enduring material activity should indicate the amount of time it takes an individual learner to complete the activity, i.e., length of recorded presentation, pilot study results.
Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) planning process requirements
The planning process for educational activities classified as “interprofessional” must demonstrate:
- An integrated planning process that includes healthcare professionals from two or more professions.
- An integrated planning process that includes healthcare professionals who are reflective of the target audience members the activity is designed to address.
- An intent to achieve outcome(s) that reflect a change in skills, strategy, or performance of the healthcare team and/or patient outcomes.
- Reflection of one or more of the interprofessional competencies to include: values/ethics, roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and/or teams/teamwork.
- An opportunity for learners to learn with, from, and about each other.
- Activity evaluations that seek to determine:
- Changes in skills, strategy, performance of one’s role or contribution as a member of the healthcare team; and/or
- impact on the healthcare team; and/or
- impact on the patient.
Planning an enduring material
Accredited continuing education (ACE) activities require an integrated planning process that includes healthcare professionals who are reflective of the target audience the activity is designed to address.
For all activities, the planning committee must include at least two healthcare professionals.
For interprofessional continuing education activities, the planning committee must be comprised of appropriate representation of the target audience(s) and accreditation type(s). This ensures that all relevant professions are involved in the planning process.
Application process for approval of Dartmouth Health Joint Accreditation credit
- Any activity seeking to apply for credit must appoint a Lead Planner who is required to complete the application. Review the following documents:
- Review checklist and frequently used documents:
- Complete the online continuing education accreditation application.
- For enduring material activities, select Directly Provided-Enduring Material for the activity format. (If you are collaborating with an external organization, select Jointly Provided-Enduring Material.)
- Valid email addresses for all planners and faculty/speakers are required to enable the financial disclosure and mitigation functionality of the system. The option to submit the application will not be available until all financial disclosure forms have been completed.
- Applications must be submitted no later than 45 days before a program. The system will not permit applications within 45 days of the activity date. This may require activity planners to begin planning their programs earlier to ensure there is sufficient time for application submission. It can take up to two weeks for the application approval process to be completed.
- Do not send any advertising for your activity with a mention of Dartmouth Health CE credit before credit is approved, as this violates joint accreditation criteria and could lead to the denial of credit. It is unacceptable to use "credits applied for" or "credits pending approval". A save-the-date with no mention of credit is permissible.
- Registration and advertising for live activities must not be published prior to final approval of the activity application.
- Submit the enduring material website template (DOCX).
- Submit pilot study results that determine the amount of time it takes an individual learner to complete the activity, if applicable.
- Submit proposed budget (XLSX) for activity, including details for estimated income and expenses, if applicable.
- If there will be commercial money (grants) or non-commercial sponsorship associated with this learning activity, please contact accreditedce@hitchcock.org at the outset of the planning process.
- The ACE office provides a standard evaluation and outcome measure that meets the accreditation requirements. If you would like an elevated outcome measure, please contact accreditedce@hitchcock.org for a consultation.
- The ACE office offers several marketing services to aid in promoting accredited activities. Learn more about our marketing services.
- If the event is recorded, the media consent form (DOCX) must be completed by non-Dartmouth Health faculty/speakers. Note: Forms should be kept with Lead Planner/Activity Coordinator files. They do not need to be uploaded into the application.
- If you have any questions, contact accreditedce@hitchcock.org.
Accreditation will be withheld until the application is approved. Retroactive credit cannot be awarded.
