About 2.87 million people in the United States suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year. Following a brain injury, there is an increased chance of developing post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE). Cognitive challenges, such as issues with memory, attention, and thinking, commonly accompany TBI and epilepsy.

HOBSCOTCH-PTE is an evidence-based self-management and cognitive training program that is designed to assist people living with TBI and epilepsy manage their memory and thinking problems in order to improve their quality of life, day-to-day cognitive function, and well-being.

With the help of a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense, the HOBSCOTCH-PTE program has engaged VA Epilepsy Centers of Excellence Partners in the Northeast to increase access to HOBSCOTCH-PTE for Veterans and service members with PTE.

Family caregivers play important roles in the recovery of their loved ones who suffer TBIs and develop PTE. Caregivers are invited to participate in the HOBSCOTCH-PTE program along with their loved ones who have PTE and cognitive challenges.
